What Comes Next after MBBS Abroad in Belarus?

Medical students, who completed their MBBS abroad, have to qualify in the Medical Council of India Screening Test, also known as Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), if they want to pursue a medical career in India.

Each year,more than 5,000 students go to countries like Russia, Nepal, China, Ukraine, Belarus, Bangladesh, etc. to obtain a degree in medicine. Why?

Foreign universities offer a great deal by providing economical and quality education for medical aspirants. Not to mention, the difficulty of getting a medical seat in India.

More than 10,000 candidates appeared for the FMGE examination held in June 2018, and 26% of the total qualified.

FMGE: WHAT ARE THE RULES AND REGULATIONS?

1. Before applying to a foreign medical college, students must obtain an Eligibility Certificate (EC) from the Medical Council of India (MCI), in order to appear for the FMGE examination.
2. According to the Indian Medical Council Act (2002), students who did their MBBS abroad must register with the State Medical Council (SMC), to practice medicine in India.
3. To register with the SMC, foreign medical graduates must qualify in the FMGE screening test and score a minimum of 50%.
4. The computerised test is held twice every year, in June and December.

FMGE- TEST AFTER MBBS IN BELARUS

Belarus is rapidly rising as a frontier in the field of education.

This landlocked country in Eastern Europe is popularly known for its museums, churches, primeval forests and medical universities that attract a large number of foreign students. At present, more than 1000 medical students are studying in the Republic of Belarus.

What makes this country so popular among aspiring doctors?

There are five top tier medical colleges in this country that provide degrees recognised internationally and by the MCI. Here, the tuition fee is the lowest compared to that of any other European country.

FMGE RESULTS- BELARUS:

According to an official report, in the period of 2012-2014, 253 students from Belarus appeared in the FMGE examination, out of which 57 qualified (21%). Based on the performance of candidates in the exam, the universities in Belarus were ranked as follows:

1. Vitebsk Medical University
2. Gomel State Medical University
3. Grodno State Medical University
4. Belarus State Medical University

In the period from 2012-2013 to 2016-2017, 452 FMGE takers were from the Republic of Belarus, with a pass percentage of 15.7.

FMGE 2019:

The MCI screening test for 2019 will be held on the 28th of June, with registrations opening in the second week of April. It is estimated that almost 12,000 medical graduates will appear for this year’s examination.

Students, who study in a globally recognised country like Belarus, will definitely gain an upper hand in qualifying for the MCI screening test. All they require is adequate preparation and confidence.
