A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION:
The Indians introduced the idea of diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, which they practiced in the form of Ayurveda and Unani. It was an uphill battle for doctors to separate religious beliefs from the practice of medicine during those times.
In the early 5th century BCE, theHippocratic Oath was written in Ancient Greek and new physicians had to swear by this oath that they would practice medicine ethically. The key message of the oath was that a doctor of medicine must uphold the values of justice and integrity.
Though it was written around 2500 years ago, the modern version is used in many medical schools like a rite of passage for upcoming doctors.
During the Renaissance period, with the development of neurology and the groundbreaking discovery of the microscope, the field of medicine rocketed to a high value and medical schools were set up to teach and assist aspiring doctors. Now doctors were able to study under an experienced faculty and get qualified by getting degrees in the field of medicine.

With the scientific revolution of the 19th and 20th centuries, modern methods were developed to sustain life. The discoveries of x rays and blood groups have propelled the field of medicine to new heights. In today’s world, doctors have become a vital part of society.
