All You Need to Know About USMLE Step 2

As posted on the official website of the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the USMLE Step 2 exam format is expected to change in June/July 2020 with more questions related to medical professionalism, legal ethics and issues, patient safety and system-based practice.

The USMLE Step 2 has two parts:

Clinical Skills (USMLE Step 2 CS)	Clinical Knowledge (USMLE Step 2 CK)

The USMLE Step 2 exam is usually taken by the students on the fourth year of their MBBS course.

The Step 2 of the USMLE exam assesses the skills, understanding and knowledge of a medical graduate on the following grounds:

Patient care and supervision
Health promotion and disease prevention
Principles of clinical sciences and basic patient-centered skills

For non-US students	1,17,379.17 INR approx.

USMLE Step 2 Question Pattern

12 standardized patient encounters for the following:

Take a patient history record
Do a physical examination of the patients
Determine differential diagnoses
Finally, write a patient note based on their determinations

Multiple-choice portion
Computerized

8 question sets with max. 40 questions

1-hour allotted for each set

USMLE Step 2 Time Duration

15-minutes for patient encounter based on medical history, medications, allergies, social history, and family history
10-minutes for patient note
