FMGE Exams: Your Ticket to Practicing Medicine in India

The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is an assessment test conducted by the National Board of Education for foreign medical graduates to get a provisional or permanent registration to the Medical Council of India (MCI). 1. The applicant must be a bonafide citizen of India or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). This should further be confirmed by the Indian Embassy and serve as recognized qualification for enrollment to the medical practitioner in the country in which the awarding institution is located. Applicants looking for provisional or permanent registration while holding undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical degrees from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom do not have to attend the FMGE. They can directly register with the Medical Council of India.

China has the largest number of FMGE test takers. Around 11,825 Indians have applied for the exam from Chinese medical universities from 2012 to 2014, with a pass rate of 18.9%.
