Everything You Need to Know About the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) Exam:

PLAB exam is meant for international medical graduates aiming at a medical career in the United Kingdom (UK).

PLAB enables international medical graduates from non-European countries to become a licensed medical practitioner in the UK. The exam is conducted by the General Medical Council(GMC) of UK.

Please understand, PLAB is not GMC medical certification but an eligibility test designed for international medical graduates to get the GMC license.

PLAB exam format

PLAB exam has two parts –

PLAB Part 1

3 hours

Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Sri Lanka

180 multiple choice questions

March, June, September and November every year

PLAB Part 2

18 scenarios (of 8-minutes each)


Clinical centers of GMC, UK only

Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE)

All time of the year (except – August and December)

  • IELTS for English proficiency (7.0 band)
